Steve Waterman, a self-taught theoretical nuclear physicist, created a 14-sided polyhedral map in 1996 based on the mathematics of sphere-packing. The 2010 versions of this map are being distributed by Waterman, who is based in Montreal. ODT has a limited number of the 1996 version in stock. The 1996 version is an almost-equal area map. Waterman postcards and magnets are also available from ODT.
